Hi, I'm Jack.
This is the short version of me, written honestly instead of cleverly. If you read to the bottom and want to say hello, there's a place to do that.
The basics
I'm 37 years old, 5'3", grew up in Maryland, and went to McGill University in Montreal for business and philosophy. After college I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail, 2,178 miles in 99 days, before I'd even started my first job. I lived in Philadelphia for a few years, and now I'm in the East Village. I work in performance marketing, running paid social campaigns, which mostly means I spend my days being analytical about things that don't always deserve it.
I'm short. I'm not going to pretend otherwise or make a joke out of it. It's just one fact about me among a lot of others, and I'd rather say it here plainly than have it be a surprise or an afterthought.
What I actually care about
I've run three marathons (Montreal, Baltimore, Philadelphia) and I still run for the quiet of it, not the medal. I play soccer in Alphabet City. And occasionally end up trying new cocktails in the West Village. I read a lot, more than 300 books at this point, mostly economics, behavioral economics, philosophy, and theology. I listen to podcasts and audiobooks constantly, on walks, on trains, in the kitchen.
I travel whenever I can, usually with a plan that's more detailed than it needs to be. I've spent time across Latin America and Europe, and I'd rather stay in a hostel and talk to strangers than see the version of a city built for tourists. I cook, I host dinners, and I notice architecture and city design in a way that probably annoys people I'm walking with. I got into bird watching a few years ago and I'm not embarrassed about it anymore.
I'm more introspective than my job title suggests. I like a good argument about something that doesn't matter and a quiet night that isn't about anything at all.
What I'm looking for
Someone I can actually talk to. Not a highlight reel, not a performance, just two people finding out if there's something worth building. I'd rather have one honest conversation than ten polished ones. If that sounds like you, say hello.
