Luthun Excels
Luthun has been frequently recommended on local forums, so I booked a table to see if it lived up to the online consensus. The space is intimate, centered on an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs work, backed by a warm and attentive team.
The beverage pairings are thoughtful and well-paced. The sommelier suggested an excellent, high-acidity Argentine white to open, followed by a smokier skin-contact orange wine that paired beautifully with the second course. For the beef, a vibrant, medium-bodied red cut through the richness, and a well-chosen digestif rounded out the evening.
The standout dish was a plate of precisely seared scallops: incredibly tender, with balanced, clean sauces that enhanced the sweet seafood without overwhelming it. A refreshing frisée salad prepared with liquid nitrogen added a playful, crisp texture.
What made the dinner memorable was its coherence. The food, the wine, the pacing, and the design of the room all share a clear, confident point of view. I left feeling fully satisfied rather than rushed. Luthun is easily one of the best meals I have found in Manhattan.
