Venue Selection Criteria

The success of an informational interview depends heavily on the environment. You must select a venue that balances proximity, acoustics, and seating availability. A loud, crowded cafe severely damages the flow of professional conversation.

Proximity to the Target

Never ask a senior employee to travel more than two blocks from their office building. Your role is to minimize the friction of their participation. Identify three premium coffee shops within a 5-minute walk of their lobby. Propose these specific options in your outreach.

Optimal Chains vs. Independents

• Corporate Lobbies: Many Class A commercial buildings feature internal coffee shops or public atriums (e.g., the Bank of America Tower). These are the most efficient venues because the employee does not need to leave their building.
• High-End Chains: Establishments like Bluestone Lane, Blank Street Coffee, or Ralph's Coffee provide reliable quality and a professional aesthetic. Avoid standard Starbucks locations, as they are often too loud and lack seating.
• Hotel Lobbies: For high-stakes meetings with managing directors or partners, midtown hotel lobbies (e.g., The Ace Hotel or the 1 Hotel) provide expansive seating, excellent acoustics, and full coffee service. They operate as premium, reliable meeting spaces.
