Laundry Operations

In-unit laundry is a luxury rarely found in short-term sublets. You will rely on local laundromats. There are two primary execution methods.

Wash and Fold Services

Most laundromats offer drop-off "wash and fold" services priced per pound. You drop off dirty laundry in the morning and pick it up clean and folded the next day. The average cost is $1.25 to $1.75 per pound. This saves three hours of your weekend and is highly recommended for interns working 60-hour weeks.

Self-Service

Self-service requires loading quarters or a prepaid card into machines. You must remain on-site or nearby to move clothes from the washer to the dryer promptly. Leaving clothes unattended risks theft or having your wet clothes removed by a waiting customer.

Grocery Procurement

Transporting groceries in Manhattan requires carrying bags blocks at a time or navigating crowded subways. You must adapt your purchasing habits.

• High-Frequency, Low-Volume: Stop buying two weeks of groceries at once. Buy what you can comfortably carry in two reusable bags every few days.
• Bodegas and Corner Stores: Use local bodegas for immediate needs like milk, eggs, or single-roll paper towels. Prices are higher, but the convenience offsets the premium.
• Delivery Infrastructure: Utilize Amazon Fresh, FreshDirect, or Whole Foods delivery for heavy items like liquids and bulk goods. Delivery fees are justified by the physical toll saved.
